Investment OutSOURCE is a blog focused on outsourcing investment management and the outsourced CIO industry. Topics include why institutions outsource the investment function, the range of outsourced CIO options available, key issues in due diligence, issues with structuring and implementing outsourced solutions, and trends in the outsourced CIO industry.
Vigilant was formed in 2012 by Laura Vossman, former chief investment officer of the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF), where she managed an endowment that grew over her tenure from $700 million in 2004 to $1.1 billion in 2011. When UIF’s board of directors considered outsourcing a portion of its endowment, Laura conducted a comprehensive review of the outsourced CIO industry and evaluated many of the leading outsourced CIO firms and products. Prior to UIF’s investment with one such firm, Laura led a complete due diligence, negotiated investment contracts, managed the funding of UIF’s investment, and integrated the outsourced investment with the rest of UIF’s portfolio. Post investment she managed UIF’s relationship with the firm and evaluated its performance. Laura is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University. Her full bio is here.
